Merry Christmas to Everyone, from the entire DentaCross Rothwell Team!
As we are coming in to Christmas we thought we would share a few tips on looking after your Teeth over the festive season, so that you can keep on top of your Dental Hygiene.
Tip #1: Be Sugar Conscious
It’s a good idea to keep an eye on the amount of sugar you are eating over the Christmas Holidays, too much sugar can cause a build up of Bacteria that may lead to you getting some decay and cavities. If you do have some sugary treats, it is a good idea to rinse your mouth out with some water to help wash away the sugar.
Tip #2: Skip the Hard and Sticky Foods.
Hard lollies and sticky toffies are delicious, though they are hard on your teeth. They can cause you to break your fillings or teeth when chewing on them and the sticky lollies have a tendency to pull filling out when chewing on them, try swapping them out for softer foods that taste just as amazing!
Tip #3: Moderation is Key
We all like to indulge in the all of foods at Christmas, but it is important to moderate just how much you are having. Be careful to not snack all day long and to limit how much sugar you have. Frequent snacking means there is constantly a build up of sugar and foods on your teeth allowing bad bacteria to sit there.
Tip #4: Enjoy Drinks in Moderation
Everyone likes a drink, whether that be alcohol or soft drinks. Moderating the amount you have is a good idea as the acidity levels in drinks such as alcohol, soft drink and juices can be damaging to your teeth, rinse your mouth out with water after your beverage to wash away that acidity.
Tip #5: Don’t Forget your Daily Routine
Most importantly, don’t forget to continue your daily routine of brushing twice a day and flossing! It is very important to keep up with this as you will be indulging more than usual which is putting your teeth at higher risk of decay!
